Lol, the liberal newspapers (I think that's all of them) and media (ditto except maybe FOX) have been trying very hard to make it appear that McCain was WAY behind (9-13 points or more)....As it turned out he was only 5% behind...

Obama was more likely to win, and it's not surprising, but he wasn't a shoo-in...

Out of curiousity, if any of you who can vote want to share, who did you finally end up voting for?

I think the idea that people voted for Obama based mainly on the color of his skin is incorrect. Sure there were some, but not as many as you might think. Agree with Obama or not, he was more articulate, had less problems, and remained more calm and leader-like during the campaign. McCain constantly had problems ranging from his temper to Sarah Palin's clothes. Are those fair issues? perhaps not, but it's all about the image. Obama was strong, steady, and calm, while McCain was worried and constantly defending himself. Fair or not, Obama looks like the stronger person, and therefor, the stronger President.

As a history major, this election was especially difficult for me. I used to be a hard-core Republican, and I voted for Bush in 2004....I have, however, moved more towards the center and find myself being an independent, which means I'll vote either way. In the end, I liked both Obama and McCain, making things all the more difficult for me. However, in the end, I felt Obama himself was a leader who had the stronger ability to bring people together, and to take the country in a new direction. I know most of you will disagree with me, but I ended up voting for Obama.

If I vote for a Republican, Gremlin gets upset, if I vote for a Democrat, everyone else gets upset! Look people, we all have our opinions, and I'll respect yours....I suggest we all do the same for eachother as well...

As for the "Stronger" comment Jody, I did not mean that personally, I meant the psychological effect. To you and me, who have knowledge on the issues, who looks stronger doesn't really matter. To a person who doesn't pay attention to the news, and just looks at the two of them, they'll tend to lean towards the one that actually looks better...it's a known fact in politics.

agreed we are all humans so no one will be alike but its good to have an open mind and view both sides. i will say this and this is just me i would love to of seen any other candidate have the democrat spot OTHER than obama (and its not because he is black)

I'm not upset with you, Forsaken - I'm a little frustrated, and still disappointed that that Obama won still, but I'm not holding any grudges. On the contrary, I'm impressed that you actually gave McCain a chance when you're living in one of the most PrO-bama (groan!) places in the States. I respect your right to vote for the candidate of your choice, and that you chose the person you believe to be the best for our country.

I tend to sound way more aggresive when I argue than where I'm coming from, so I hope you don't feel like you're being attacked - You're not.

Anyway, to get back to the discussion, your arguments seem to have two main points - Leadership & Image, so I'll break my answer into two parts -

Leadership

To start, let me ask a question -

When has Obama demonstrated leadship, and what kind of leadership has he demonstrated?

**120 times, he only voted present...

**He has little experiance. His role as a "community organizer" was the most experiance he ever had...

Obama constantely fudges, lowers expectations on, and even totally outright breaks his promises (This link only mentions a very few, but it's the best I could find - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

**He's against free speech (not exactly the position of someone who think he can lead...at least, lead with - (Hate Crimes - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ; He supports the "Fairness Doctrine" (I couldn't find a link to explain it, but basically it would censor talk radio)....and I doubt it would stop there...Canada is a good example of where hate crime laws go....)

The list goes on, but it's long enough already, so I'll leave here for now...

Image

Now on Image, well...I'm a little confused here - it almost sounds like you're saying that it's more important for a candidate to look good, than to actually be the best choice... confused I don't think that's what you're saying, but I'll make a couple of points anyway -

**While Obama is still a star with the MSM (which is good to have, as Bush discovered.) he doesn't have much respect from our enemies (which is the PR you MUST have, especially if you're promising not to avoid fighting wars) - Hamas was so overjoyed to finally have a compassionate and understanding president, that they celebrated his election by launching mortars at Israel, and Putin is now daring "Obama to give him his best shot" or something like that....

**You also mentioned Palin's $150,000 wardrobe (That the RNC[i/] bought, many of which were bought to make sure they had the right size, and were immediately returned, and the rest of which were given to charity) which is a bit...excessive, but keep in mind that all the people attacking her for being a crazy shopper were the same [i]anoymus aides who claimed she didn't know Africa was a continent, so...I don't think this qualifies as news...especially when there's a lot more to "report" on Biden (you know, three letter words....like jobs, lol!)......maybe it's just me

**Finally, I found a comment that puts it pretty well IMO, even if it's not exactly the point they're trying to make..

Quote :
I honestly think a number of GOP candidates could have won, but not as long as they were being outspent by such a wide margin as McCain was and having to go up against the M(ain)S(tream)M(edia) as well. The GOP should have been running ads defining who Obama was all summer long, but lacked the funds to do so. Obama's money advantage allowed him and his Hollywood producers to portray him as this post-partisan, above the fray, rock star type candidate when in fact he is really just a far-left liberal who got pushed thru the corrupt Chicago Democrat party machine. Once a candidate is able to define his image to the public the way he wants to, it's awful hard to counter it when the MSM is all to willing to play along with their preferred candidate. Only a huge campaign warchest could have countered the Obamamania machine (coupled with a great candidate). Wink

P.S. I agree that racism probably didn't have all that much to do with the election. Like I said in a post above -

Quote :
I don't think that racism, counter-racism, self-hating racism, religion, and sexism, and any other wacky theories they're throwing out there really matters much, in terms of votes (and what little there is probably ends up in the ethnic/female candidates favor).

Mainly, they're just excuses a candidate makes when they're not doing well, like Obama & racism, Romney & those "Anti-Mormon Bigots" hiding somewhere, and McCain & Sexism (although I think Palin herself deserves credit for not pointing fingers.)

Since I'm in a hopelessly politcal mood at the moment, for anyone who's interested, who do you think's likely to be the best Rep. for 2012? (and then, 3 years from now, some dark horse candidate proves everyone wrong again, lol!) Just to pass the time.....

Personally, I think that whoever it is going to have a long way to go, even with Obama's declining poll numbers. The biggest problem Republicans have is deciding what they stand for, whether they should stay conservative or become dem lite.

I give my thoughts later, depending on whether anyone else is interested or not.

Woah! First off, I have no idea what Jody's vids are, so please do NOT blame for that. Second, I am NOT EVER going to accuse you of suicide bombing or stuff like that!!!!

I should have been more careful in spreading jokes around (and btw. I've seen and laughed at anti-republican jokes as well, even with some) I probably should have realized how that joke could be taken, but at the time I was thinking of the people who try and shove liberalism down your throat.

I apologize for any offense you may have taken IN MY OWN POSTS

I do NOT think you are a moron or anything of the kind! I don't believe all (or even mostly) stupid fanatics. I hoestly respect your beliefs even when I disagree and meant no offense. I hope you can forgive me. I've edited my post (I've only kept the one about Nation United/Divided. Other than that, they're gone).

...Sorry, I probably jumped the gun a hell of a lot more than I should have back there. I apologize for that everyone. I didn't mean to but it was just that all I really saw the thread devolving into WAS pointless trolling.

Where was the intellectual discussion? All I saw were crude jokes and images. Even if I flew off the handle, it's hard to argue that this was actively stimulating. There are many other threads for this kind of stuff, folks, but there was no INTELLIGENT talk going on.

Like I've said before, SB, I've burnt out whatever anger I held and I've mellowed out. I'm not going to hold this against you, or anyone here, I just really needed to vent at the time because I didn't know if you guys WERE serious or not (well, at least you aren't).

I really should probably delete that post, to be honest.
