Subject: Cowboy Bebop Soundtrack Tue Feb 17, 2009 2:16 pm
One of the best things about Cowboy Bebop is it's soundtrack...it's main composer, Yoko Kanno, worked with the Japanese band, The Seatbelts to create some amazingly original and refreshing music, much of which was based upon American Jazz and Rock. And since the Anime was largely inspired and influenced by music(the title is Cowboy Bebop, Bebop being a type of Jazz), the music was taken extremely seriously. Some of my favorite songs include the main intro, "Tank"
This is the FULL Version-
There is a ton of music I love from this anime, but I'll list more after I hear from some of you other bebop fans.
I think its important here to mention that an overwhelming majority of BeBop's "sessions" (what they call their episodes... based on the term for jazz sessions) are titled after either a form of music (which they fill that session with) or the title of a song in english (most prominently The Rolling Stones).
Examples? Asteroid Blues, Jupiter Jazz, Ganymede Elegy, Waltz for Venus, and Cowboy Funk. Also "Wild Horses", "Sympathy for the Devil", and "Honky Tonk Women" (the Rolling Stones), "Toys in the Attic" (Aerosmith), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen) and "My Funny Valentine" (a song considered a jazz standard).
As such the music of BeBop is very important to the experience as a whole. Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts manage to recreate each genre flawlessly, from samba to Heavy metal.
My favorite songs from Cowboy BeBop...
"Tank!" (one of my favorite jazz songs)
"The Real Folk Blues" (ending theme... I used to be able to sing this in japanese)
"Rain" (sets the tone for Ballad of Fallen Angels)
"Green Bird" (unforgettable scene)
"Call Me, Call Me" (music when Ed leaves the group)
"Blue" (Ending theme of the last episode. Perfect lyrics)
"Pushing the Sky" (from the Cowboy BeBop film Knocking On Heaven's Door when Spike fights Vincent. Great fight scene, reat music... nice slap bass in it too)
"Gotta Knock a Little Harder" (Ending theme from the Cowboy BeBop the movie)
All fantastic songs, especially Green Bird and Real Folk Blues...
I also enjoyed some of the other jazz tracks(since I happen to love jazz), such as-
New York Rush (fast paced jazz theme with heavy use of brass instruments, including Saxaphone)
Piano Bar (Obviously a Jazzy piano piece which is often played at the end of an episode, including Ballad of Fallen Angels)
Piano Black (another fast paced jazz piece which uses techno elements along with piano and the saxaphone)
And of course, there is Adieu, one of the very best songs in the series which is used throughout the series in it's "music box" form, and then finally in its vocal form in the last episode...I just have to post it.
But those are just a few...i love so many others like Car24, Waltz for Zizi, Cats on Mars, Road to the West...god there are just so many beautiful tracks...truly CB has perhaps the best soundtrack. Period.
