Subject: Sony Motion Control: True 1:1 Sensitivity Thu Jun 04, 2009 12:19 pm
Sony shocked and impressed many at this year's E3 by unveiling their own motion controller, very clearly based off of Nintendo's Wii mote...the difference? Sony's will offer true 1:1 sensitivity...which means that it will be extremely precise...the video actually showed the user writing with the remote, and it loked just like a pencil.
The Controller also comes with a camera(much like Microsoft's Natal camera) which would transport your image into the game, and literally put you within the game. But that's not the end of it: graphical technology will be able to take your image, and add images to it.
For example: When the demonstrator was using the controller, the game replaced the controller he was holding in his hand with a 3D sword, so it looked as if he was weilding a sword.
Seem confusing? Check out this video, and you too will be impressed...

Wow! When I first heard about this I thought Sony was basically just ripping off Nintendo idea and maybe trying to one-up them. This is more like a 3-up
The only problem I have is.......this is going to be DARNED expensive!!!

I agree, this truly looks like a great step forward, especially with the camera technology. Can you imagine being transferred into the game, and not only weilding a weapon, but also wearing clothes and other adornments? The possibilities are endless...as is the immersion we would feel...especially in RPG's and the like.
Nintendo has some serious catching up to do!

True, this is impressive, but I'll have to wait and see how it turns out before I give my final opinion.....this has waaay too much potential to be either glitchy or ridiculously expensive. (or both) I agree that the future of gaming seems to lie in this direction....we'll just have to wait and see if NATAL is the way it's going to get there.
The camara certainly is superior to the miis Nintendo has as well.....just depends on how it works. Sony has definitely impressed me so far. Maybe if the price comes down I'd start seriously considering getting a PS3(assuming we can even just get the $%^#& wii set up. )......besides, I really want to try Valkyria Chronicles.
P.S. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I'm kind of hoping that gaming doesn't entirely switch to motion control.....I think some games play better without it myself. Guess that's another thing I'll just have to wait & see.

I'm with you there Smashed, I'm already seriously considering the PS3, although I won't buy it until I see a price drop. Either way, this motion control is certainly a step in the right direction, and while Miyamoto claims he's not worried, I'm sure they're secretly figuring out something to counter this development.
And of course, while motion control is the thing of the future, I still can't fathom motion control completely overtaking traditional control...much like Brawl, Final Fantasy, or even many shooters, some games just can't be played(or shouldn't be played) with motion control.

Nintendo really just needs to stop using it's 1:1 on Wii Sports Resort and help out all the 3rd party devs trying to make good use of it, imo at least. That on stage demo of Wii Sports Resort did nothing for me, shooting a basketball at 1:1 isn't impressing me. Doing some fun tech demos that show me how easy it is to write with your 1:1 motion control and all of the different possibilities with it impresses me.
And I don't see motion control taking over, like Sony said, some things need a button, and some games need many buttons, they just won't work. BTW Valkyria Chronicals is fun, I liked it a lot.

I agree with you on some games being better the old fashioned way. So trust me, you're not the only one This new device has me intrigued though and I can almost say that I'm sold on the concept.
By the way, the PS3s aren't as expensive as you think. The price has lowered to the best of my knowledge. The thread "Get a PS3 or 360" has some info regarding price thanks to Koopa_under_fire. Then again, it all depends on how much you actually want to spend which in my opinion, it's worth the price it already has.
Also, OFF TOPIC, but I'm glad to hear you're dying to try out Valkyria Chronicles, Smashed. Beautiful game in my opinion. There's a thread featuring the game for those who are curious about it. Would like to know what your exact thoughts are on it Koopa.

Personally I thought the example of using it in an RPG was quite clever... the thought of using Firaga in final fantasy with a motion controller is pretty awesome I must admit. I'm actually shocked they haven't thought of using this with the Wii mote yet...

This is the future everyone. Kinetic=fail. Wii motion + = EPIC fail.

Looked stunning, plain and simple. I also love how you can simply download the programming to allow the Move to work with other games. Kinetic was a bug meh for me. Move is going to dominate.

Agreed with both guests! Love this concept of Sony's. I may even purchase the Move.
