Subject: Super Mario Galaxy 2 - thoughts? Fri Jun 25, 2010 5:01 am
I personally found this game brilliant. Each planet a new and refreshing puzzle or gimmick to it which kept the game moving. Also, the addition of Comet Coins was a great idea in my opinion as gave each level replay value even if most were quite to find. The music obviously played a huge part with great pieces in levels such as the Tall Tree galaxy (kept me sane through the purple coin level). Some of it did like remixes of the first game however - I heard a LOT of remixes of the Gusty Gardens theme from the SMG1 in the screen where you choose what level to go to, the overworld screen and levels such as Cloud Court (think that's what it's called). Though, this isn't necessarily a bad thing since that music was epic.
Prankster Comets make a return, which I guess have to happen, but it doesn't stop me hating Purple Coin Missions! At least the Cosmic races have been replace with the Cosmic Clones; I'm not sure whether that's good or not...
It's great to be able to play as Luigi without having to go through the ENTIRE game again. I prefer to use him over Mario due to his better jumping ability which greatly outweighs lower traction. He appears in a few select levels, then after you beat Bowser you can play with him all the time (which I do).

The final boss sequence is terribly disappointing. It is so simple, and nothing at all like what I had expected. It doesn't give that same same rush of adrenaline that NSMBW did with the chase scene and the whole ground-pound the planet into him was pretty easy. Not to mention the fact that he's MASSIVE this time, I think even bigger than Sunshine!
Oh yeah, and Yoshi's loads of fun to play with some inventive powerup fruits and he's in enough levels unlike NSMBW.
EDIT: I forgot to say, I'm at about 90 stars so no spoilers about what happens when you reach 120 stars please

my thoughs are the same as you
none of the planets feel the same all fresh brand new ideas but with a lot of galaxy 1 song remixes though galaxy 2 looks and feels like one dont let that get you down this still a masterpiece game. i still hate purple coins >_> but i can live with them as long as there is no cosmic races 2nd most hated one
glad to see yoshi and im glad to see more crazy suits and power ups too.... now back to getting more stars

Indeed I did, though Luigi's ending wasn't as great as I had expected. Though it was good to see as I only had the game for rent so would not have known otherwise. And that last planet looks really, really tough!
