FTW Chat Party!

This was an okay concept on a GameSpot union I'm a part of (which died last night).

Basically, in the same way that there were the FTW gaming nights, set up a specific day and time for weekly meet-ups in the chat. On my union, it was the day before the gaming nights, on Friday evenings. Can't remember how long it lasted, but it was a couple of hours before most people would leave.

I've noticed that it can be irritating on the chat for people to come in at disjointed times, or to come on but not chat with someone that might *cough* be there, on account of their not being focused on it.

So why not try and just make a uniform time frame each week that members can come in and chat for, I thought to myself.

From what I've seen this week, it looks like Friday had the most members come through in an hour or two, but if anyone else has any suggestions, that's cool.

That could work, there just has to be enough time in advance so people will know to come to the chat at the specific time.

That would be necessary if it were a one-off thing. By being consistent about it each week and sending mass PMs out at the start of each Chat Party, it'd make it much less of a chore to get going, because it'd practically self-sustain.

I agree - starting this event again would be the best thing to do IMO. It'd keep things going while still being flexible - we could probably keep it running on just 3-4 members a night, which shouldn't really be that hard. I've talked a little about this with a couple others, and there's still some interest anyway.

It was a good idea. I would love to catch up on how you guys are doing...and what games you guys are playing. Im sure i can share a few things that changed in my life cheers

Seems like a great idea. I'd like to hearing about what everyone has been up to.

What time was everyone thinking that this would occur tomorrow? I'm free for the most part at any time, personally.

Can't remember too fantastically when it was on in my GS union, but I'm thinking it started about the 6 p.m time range. Not sure what time zone, though.

I would also think that restarting this would work well. Because of its informal nature, it wouldn't have the same problems as tournies, which required attendence. This would only need a few members. It'd just be a time when everyone who wants to chat can be reasonably sure of finding someone there.

Sadly my work has me working 2nd shift 4pm to 1am (or 12 if I'm lucky) so weekday nights are bad for me but if the rest can do it on Monday don't let me stop ya

It just depends on people catching each other on the chat on the right day. So far I've had good chat sessions with other members at least once a week.

I take Chat Parties have fallen off.....well, I'm glad to hear that at least things aren't quite so dead as they seem. One of these days I've got to have a talk with mom regarding chats. It's.....annoying to feel like I'm the only one here.
