In all honesty after my brother Forsaken Lament moved out (and took all the systems with him), I have been feeling out of the video game loop. I do not keep up with this stuff as much as I should, I suppose. Thank goodness for you all otherwise I would be completely lost. I do know, however, that a new silent hill game is coming out soon. Which I am sure absolutely none of you have interest in *sigh* Other than that, what's the point? I don't have a wii, ds, ps3, or xbox. I'm deprived!!!
Maybe I should stick to the chat...
..help?

Far as I know, the new Silent Hill is a HD re-release of the first games in the series.
But, um…help how?

From what I gather it is a brand new chapter in the series. It's called 'Silent Hill Downpour', and it is supposedly centered around a prison escapee who stumbles into silent hill. Honestly though, I haven't even kept up with this title all that much. I'm sure it will be decent, but definitely won't be anything new.

I say you got to your brothers house and choose a console and take it back home He probably doesnt play both at the same time and with him getting a PS3 might not play them at all

Easier said than done Waaar. He paid for the xbox and my father bought the Wii for us, so I guess if anything I'd get the wii. I just figured I'd leave it with him so you all could brawl with him. I have been saving a lot of money for a new laptop, but now that I finally fixed mine I see no need for a new one. Perhaps I will purchase a system all of my own.

I second this. It even just had a price reduction bringing it to $249. It would be awesome to have you in the Sony community. Jody, Waaar, Samco, and I all have one. I hear Cory's thinking about getting one in the near future. It's surely a different experience than the Wii when it comes to gaming with friends online

Well I will be making roughly $150 tomorrow by working construction so maybe it's something to consider. The only thing is that I have no clue what games to buy with it? And yes it would be awesome to be able to play with all of you once again.

I can recommend some good titles if you're really serious about picking one up. It all depends on what you're into; both single player and multiplayer. There's a wide range to choose from, but one series I can recommend is Uncharted. It will not disappoint. Also look into that new Silent Hill as well as Valkyria Chronicles.

Well, where would you recommend I purchase the PS3 and how do I know which one to buy? I'm confused! There seem to be a lot of options, but I could be wrong lol.
edit: It also seems as though most of the stores around me have either sold out of them or have very limited stock.

In terms of where to buy it from, it can be anywhere legit. I bought mine's from Gamestop but Target and Bestbuy are good places to purchase one. As far as which one, I'm not sure. The only difference is the amount of memory it comes with. Everything else, equipment and function/capability, is the same. It all depends on how much you plan on using memory wise. If you go over that limit, you can always upgrade the Hard Drive soon afterwards. Hope this helps

Alright. I am sure I don't need one with a ton of memory! I've also heard that only certain ps3s can play ps2 titles. Is that true? I was actually thinking of buying from amazon...but I suppose I can check out target!

I forgot to mention that only launch PS3 models are able to play PS2 titles. For some odd reason they took that functionality out with the 3rd generation models. So no, unfortunately, that's no longer true with the brand new PS3 models. You could technically get a refurbished, launch PS3, but keep in mind that it'll be used and more expensive.
If you were thinking Amazon, I'd say it's a good place to purchase but only if you can't find any systems in stock in your area. Hope you get one Skye. Maybe it'll convince Cory to pick one up faster :p

Darn, that is a pretty significant disappointment. I feel as though my ps2 is on it's last leg. I don't know why they would purposefully remove that function? I'd really hate to lose my ps2 and have a ps3 that won't play any of my current games.

I think its the ps3 with 40 - 60 and 80 GB that plays PS2 games aswell Im not sure about 40 and 80 but I know 60 plays it and 20 GB doesnt
New ones have 160 GB and 320GB I think
160 GB is really enough if you ask me unless your gonna download tons and tons of demos :p

I'm just borrowing the Wii Skye, so you'll have it back when you want it. But maybe they're right...perhaps it would be a good call to buy that PS3. There are a lot of RPGs for it, as well as that Catherine game everyone keeps talking about.
I found you two SH: Downpour videos too:
Looks pretty amazing.

I say go for it...if you don't have any real bills and the money? Why not? You know you'll play it. Besides, I'll likely get one when I finally have the spare cash. Then we can play online (which is free, unlike the 360 <_<)...pretty much everyone else is already, and I'm starting to feel left out myself to be honest.

Lol, I'm going to have to join the bandwagon and say buy the PS3 if you can afford it, though I've only played it at a friend's house. There's not much for me to say that everyone else hasn't said, so I'll leave at this - BUY IT!!!!

I guess it's too late for me to convince you to get a 360 now that everyone's chanted "PS3, PS3!"?

Nobody has told you even the smallest shred of information about the 360 at all...
I have both, and I personally spend a lot more time on the 360 than the ps3, mainly due to the online, which, if you are willing to buy, makes PSN look insignificant in quality.
Although PS3 does have a lot of good exclusives, and you don't seem like much of an online gamer, so I'd actually get a ps3, despite it's massive flaws.

Well, the reason for no one mentioning the 360 is the fact that she used to have one. Except I took it

While we're on that topic, Cory... why would you buy a PS3 instead of online for the 360 and some multiplayer games? It'd ultimately be cheaper.

Most of us own a PS3 here. I suppose its more of the fact that it'd be easier to just purchase a PS3 for $249 and be able to game with the FTW community than to keep the current PS3 and wait until everyone gets a 360. Personally, Cory, I'm more excited to hear you're considering a PS3 purchase. Hell, even Roy wants to get one.
If you've seen my portal post, I'm sure you know what's going on. If not, go check it out. But I'd like to get people's opinions on what's going on with FTW. Please post them here, and vote in the poll.
