I wonder if I should get a Xbox360 or a PS3? I would need your opinions on this and some help deciding and would prefer having good reasons why for me.
Here are what IM looking for -Good RPGs (I love FF series) -Shooting and racing games -Strategy games -Fighting games -And some different style games also from time to time
The situation is like this -My bro has a PS3 and lives just upstairs of me. So Im not sure if it would be worth getting a PS3 since I can go to his house and play, but I dont wanna go up just for that and everytime I wanna play. PLus this would cut on the money spent on the games. I have a few friends only that has a PS3 so not too many people for online playing. Free internet conection for PS3
-XBOX 360: More people have the it. My cousin might find a way to chip it so that we wont have to pay for games on it, but I wonder if the online will work then and I dont know anyone around that has the 360 in case I would like to play online a certain game and the chipped one doesnt work online.
So this is the situation anyone can help me get out of the situation?

Well, the 360 has a larger library of games...but when it comes to exclusives they're about even...but then again you have to pay for Live...so it's a tough call.
Personally I'd say 360 simply because you'd be able to play online with most of the members on this site...the RPG selection is alright, at least it will have FFXIII. As for strategy, you should be fine...and shooting games?! More than you can count...
Actually, now that I think of it, didn't you already have a PS3??

well, I'm not sure about that...I love my 360, but you have to remember the whole "red ring of death" issue, in which the right on the front of the xbox turns red and your system stops working...
it hasn't happened to me, and I've had mine for a year(knock on wood), but I've also heard the Microsoft is doing something to compensate 360 owners...so I don't know..

Hmmm I just heard about a few more exciting looking exclusives for the 360, including a horror game called "Alan Wake", about a horror Novelist who becomes trapped in his own nightmare stories...looks pretty amazing...I'll include a trailer-
Just another good reason to pick the 360.

I got a PS3, and I had pondered the decision of PS3 vs 360 for well over a year, and I'll tell you why I came to my conclusion. -Free Online -Built in Wi-Fi, I would have need about a 200 ft ethernet cable -Cheaper and Easy to change HD, I'm now up to 320 GB -Blu-Ray -Bluetooth -True wireless batteryless controllers -Exclusives -etc
For you though, shooting games lean towards the 360 controller, just because that's what most people say, I personally have no preference to the controller, they're both good imo. Plus KZ2 is on the PS3, but you've got CoD on both but more online support on the 360, so that's a toss up. Racing games, probably the PS3, Motorstorm, and Gran Turismo. RPG's, um I really don't know, Fallout 3 is finally getting DLC on the PS3, other wise I'd lean towards that, I really like Valkyria Chronicles. Fighting Games, I hate fighting games, so I don't know, Street Fighter on both. The PS3 has LBP, inFAMOUS and some very interesting games downloadable from the PS Store. Really though, it's up to you, they both are very good consoles and well worth the money.

Many of your points are impossible to argue with Koopa...which, in a way, makes me question why I have a 360, although I've really enjoyed it so far...I often told myself the DLC for Fallout 3 was a plus, but after hearing it's coming to the PS3, even that goes out the window...
The 360 is a great system no doubt, but if you have the cash, perhaps you really should get the PS3, especially since it's getting Final Fantasy Versus XIII(a fact that is killing me right now...)

They better be, lol, I thought each one over for a really long time. I actually was on the verge of buying a 360 two christmas' ago, but I decided to wait and deal with my Wii for a little while, then I finally got my PS3. The exclusive DLC is something that kind of floors me, from GTAIV to Fallout 3, but at least I'm finally getting Fallout 3 DLC.
The only things I can really see that makes the 360 better is the lower starting price, not going to say it's lower in the long run, because depending on your online play, and if you need a bigger HD it could end up being more, but Xbox live, and the bigger fan base it what sells them. It almost brought me over too, I though, "All my friends have 360's, and play Halo 3 online," but then I thought, "Wait, I don't even like Halo 3," well that went out the window quick. And the very frustrating fact that non-exclusive games look better, this is because devs make the game on the 360 first because it's easier and port them to the PS3, and since, obviously they're not the same console, it doesn't port perfectly. That's all I've got.

While all of the points are valid, koopa_under_fire, I must personally disagree with it. What really got me frustrated with Sony was the arrogance they displayed this generation with their console: "Hey, we'll slap this price tag down because we believe our consumers are loyal enough to buy anything that we crap out!" I don't like supporting a company that attempted to shove a piece of technology down my throat, even if it has 'won' against HD-DVD, just because that's what they wanted to do, market-wise. Sure, it might make my games look better (I've gone on record as saying Blu-Ray looks gorgeous), but I won't be getting a player until the price goes down. I can't support a company that would have me do something like that just because of the fact that it's what THEY want. I'm the consumer and I should be the top priority when it comes to Sony, not whatever fat cat who got the paycheck for coming up with that in the first place.
Sure, online might be free, but I hear that it also tends to bug a lot more than Xbox Live does (though this is only apocryphal, I can't confirm this myself). Presumably, money you put into Xbox Live also goes toward helping fix bugs that would take a slower time to fix on the PlayStation Network. Money that is taken can be recycled for a better, cleaner product in the end.
Not to mention the fact that most of my friends have Xboxs, so really, there wasn't much point of me, myself, getting a PS3 either; who would play with me? I'm also rather fond of the Halo franchise, so that was a plus as well. While I concede the PS3 gets more exclusives than the 360 does, I would argue this is merely only to justify the price tag games get there: $60. Are you kidding me? It's already a pain to slap down $50!
Bottom line: I respectfully disagree with your opinion and I would strongly urge pugsly1000 to get a 360 if online gaming is what he wants to do. If not, then I would probably suggest the PS3 myself.

I'm just going to say this, I'm not trying to start anything, just my opinion. I personally love the BR player on my PS3, I thought about it for a while, and just thought, "I don't even have an HDTV, there's no reason to get this." But after actually getting my HDTV and renting BR movies, I've changed my mind, it was well worth it.
And as for the online, I had a few problems at times, but not with lag or the playing online, it was my actual connection to my PS3 I was having trouble with. So I had to keep resetting my router. But even through that I could play online lag free no problem. And since I did some research and fixed that, I have had no lag in any game except CoDWaW (CoD4 runs great for some odd reason), and LBP at launch, that's gotten much better though, still lags a little though, and it's one of the most frustrating feelings in the world!
I've also heard of a lot of people having problems, so I don't understand why I don't have any and I only have a 50% something connections and decent internet speed.
Personally I think they're both on par for actual online play, Xbox Live obviously has all that extra stuff that you don't get with PS3, although they're getting a lot more finally. (in game XMB, in game text chat, etc) My most frustrating online experience with live though, is the time I was playing CoD4 at a friends house and he had tv, internet, phone bundled, and when the phone rang we lagged and lost our connection, that sucked!

I don't know much about Sony's online service, although I have heard of bugs...regardless, it seems like you're right Koopa, they're basically on par with one another. But Everlong does bring up a good point...more people have 360s! Most of my friends, as well as people on the site play live...I'd be screwed if I didn't have it myself..now of course...that's no fault of sony's, but of course it is on the mind of the consumer when they visit the store. Of course, there is the other issue of compatability...from what I've heard, it was Microsoft who declined to allow gamers who own different systems to play online with one another. I'm not sure how true this is, however if it IS true, it really is a shame...
There's also another issue no one has brought up, and that's the issue of problems with the console itself. Now every console has issues, however it seems that Microsoft is notorious for this...especially with the "Red Ring of Death". luckily I haven't had that problem yet...BUT my 360 recently stopped reading discs! The laser reader seems to be shot...so no gaming discs for me. Lucky for me I bought a warranty(even though i'll have to wait about 8 weeks after i ship it off in the mail ) so I won't have to give up my fallout 3 addiction completely...lol
Is the 360 the only console to have this issue? Of course not...but this infamous tendency it has isn't necessarily helping its image..

No doubt, the fact that I'm one of three people in my school that have a PS3 and have it online, I think maybe three other people have one offline, really made me think about getting a 360, considering everyone has one. I realized Halo 3 is the only game people play online around here though, and as I said before, I'm not a fan of that game. It really does make you think twice though, if you have friends that you want to play online who have 360's it a good way to go, but as I said before, it's completely up to you, get what you feel is best suited for you. That's the best advice I've got, you have a majority of the pros and cons of each console, now put them together and see what you like best.

Okay, I was keeping quiet but I have to jump in now. Waaar, get what you think will entertain you in the long-run.
Personally, I'm a Sony guy when it comes to choosing between the two but that in no way should influence your decision. I will, however, point out a few things about the PS3 as a PS3 owner that I think have kept my positive view about the console.
The library on RPGs is pretty decent, you just have to be open about the genre in itself to find the greatness in them. Shooters do fall a bit short but still offer a great library with games such as Call of Duty, SOCOM, Turok, and MGS4. You will have plenty of fighting games in this console to keep you entertained with the likes of Soul Calibur 4, Street Fighter 4, and the upcoming Tekken 6, however, these are also available for the 360. I will point out a personal favorite of mine that I've recently finished that has been mentioned breifly by koopa; Valkyria Chronicles. If you are to get a PS3, then you must get that game as well. It's pure gold. It's a tactical, JRPG with a lot of depth and story in it that can rival even the best of games (it will get a full review in the next few weeks).
Features that the PS3 has are the aforementioned Blu-ray, free internet, and PS network service. I haven't really messed with the 360 XBOX Live to fairly compare the two online offerings, but will say that the online is pretty decent. I honestly have had little to no problems being online and find it quite enjoyable. Granted, its not as popular as Live, but it should keep you busy with its offerings. You also have DLC for various games, the ability to rent movies, download demos, TV shows and much more.
Control-wise, I don't have a preference when it comes to choosing between the two. I'm more used to the PS3 but the 360's are almost the same as well. Blu-ray is amazing but only if you have the capability to watch Blu-ray movies. It's really a standard extra and it does enhance the games that you play visually if you have the right equipment. This is not to say that you need an HDTV to use the PS3, but rather it improves the overall experience. The same can be said about the 360.
There are so many games for this system to consider as well. MGS4 and Valkyria Chronicles are among them. Devil May Cry 4 is also a great game as is Folklore. You also have two, great Final Fantasy games coming out for this system next year. Monster Hunter and White Knight are also great titles coming up for the PS3 library. My advise to you is to keep on the look out for the PS3 and XBOX 360 E3 sessions to compare games.
All in all, they are both great consoles in their own right. While it may seem that I'm giving more props to the PS3 in my post, I really can't compare the two since I don't own the 360. The same can be said for those who only own the 360. That said, with what you see in this thread, now its time you make your decision on what system to get so long as you do it for long-term entertainment rather than to appease the majority. Look for the gold in both systems and make your decision from there. Happy hunting!

Well thx to everyone that has given advices and opinions on the subject.
Im more of a PS person myself. Never liked microsoft personnaly but I wasnt sure which one to get because like everyone else I know more people who have and Xbox then the PS3 for online gaming, but I guess this is because it was out earlier and people had already bought it before the PS3 came out. Plus the price of the PS3 was way too high early on, but now I see that there is little difference between both of them (100$) only and thats like what 1 and half year of live, so I guess it doesnt make such a huge difference. Plus the PS3 has alot of exclusive games that the Xbox doesnt. And my bro has one so I wont have to buy too many.
But I guess I will wait and see if I can have some extra money on the side to buy it or wait for the next generation to come, that might be awhile. Until then I will try to finish the games I already have on the wii.

Well, Sony's 2009 press conference has certainly made me a believer. I'll always love my 360, but damn...some of Sony's games look amazing, and some of the exclusives are just too good to pass up....don't be surprised if I pick one up in the near future. I just wish they would have announced a PS3 Slim, or at least a price cut...not even Final Fantasy Agito XIII or Heavy Rain make me want to spend that much money...

That's right! They released a version at that price last holiday season. Don't know how much memory it has but that can easily be increased with SD cards. It's a great buy for those who want a PS3!
