Health Care Reform......

So.....what do you think of what's going on with health care reform?

I support rational discussion over the issue of health care, universal or not, instead of the screaming, name-calling, and conspiracy theorizing that most debates these days have seemingly devolved into. On one hand, it was shunted into Congress so fast that almost no one really seemed to stop and think about its potential consequences and how much it would cost; we cannot have a large military at the same time as we have big public health works. It fundamentally hurts things and one of my problems with the Reagan presidency. If one continues down such a path, it leads to economic depression.

On the other hand, as I said, there is no rational opposition to it from at least those who are shown in the media. The Tea Party is frightening to me, even if I am aware that there are those who can oppose the proposed system logically with arguments, rather than having to devolve into questioning President Obama's birthplace or claiming that the elderly will be rounded up into concentration camps and euthanized. Granted, rational voices never get attention by the media (American or otherwise; regardless of liberal or conservative political trappings), but the problem is that they are the face of the opposition. And this bothers me.

So do I support universal health care? Yes, yes I do. I believe that it should be done...albeit carefully and more slowly than has happened. That way, at least, I wouldn't have to hear all the screams and cries of "SOCIALISM!" or "COMMUNISM!" come from some.
