Suggestion Box

hey guys i have 2 suggestions to help make the site better and allow member input

first suggestion we make a suggestion box or suggestion topic.......DONE!

second can we bring back the video of the week? since i brought up the topic i want to take care of it. also the video of the week is not limited to just video games. it can be trailers for games, movies, tv show, or whatever. it can also be some really popular video there is no limit to it. if you guys do not want to bring this back up it no problem you will not hurt my feelings one bit. im just throwing out ideas.

Actually, It's funny you should mention the video of the week...I almost brought it up last night! Do you want it to just be a thread? Or would you like the little widget I used to have on the portal? I could put it on the side bar if you want...but if I did, I'd put you in charge of it, I always last track of it before, and I think you'd be better anyway since you do all the FTW videos.

i can make a thread and have suggestions and change the video every friday on the widget. sounds good?

Sounds good Jody. Make a thread for it, and post that video. Whatever video you post, I'll put in this week. You can handle it every other week. I'll have to explain how to do it.

I suggest we restart the skype chat aswell.
If you ask why really simple.
First you can see msgs that come on skype the next time you open it even if you werent online
Second if you use it on a regular basis you can see if someone is on faster or wants to talk/play etc.
Third you tend to forget checking a site sometimes but (atleast for me) skype is open all the time even when Im not on

PS I saw Jordon there a few months ago. ** the one from Toronto who used to play with Ike and not Doublebanger

I don't have a microphone, but if I did, I'd be on Skype with you guys. I know the other guys still chat on there sometimes...

You dont need a mic on skype, you can chat normally
plus even if they voice chat you can listen and write back worst case scenario

Good idea for the suggestion box, I'll be sure to throw in many as we go.

I guess we could have a vote on this but in all honestly, I am not crazy about the xat chat and I have expressed this before. I prefer Everywhere chat. It allows more messaging (a longer history) and we could also meet new people this way (that is how we met klepto btw). I'm just throwing that out there. Xat just seems so... old and outdated. If I am the only one who wants this change then that is fine and we can keep xat. Just sort of curious about what other people think.

I agree with Skye, I don't like xat, it seems too childish. The other one we had, after we got rid of xat was good, I liked that a lot. Also wasn't the xat the one that got hacked?

My first suggestion: remove the 'guests can post' nonsense. You don't see any other forum do this and for good reason. It discourages newcomers from making accounts and contributing to the community. I know we're closely-knit and I like that (like a small village where everyone knows each other) but more members is never bad.

way ahead of ya we had a small problem where they were posting spam and Cory, Luis, SmashedBrother, and myself took action to remove the ability for guest to post

Next suggestion (told you I have lots):
Can we move the 'FTW Announcements and Site Discussion' to the top of The Arcade as it would be more suitable there, rather than in General Discussion. If a new member wants to read our Rules or if someone is checking for any new announcements then it's only logical to have these important threads at the top of the page.

Also, once this motion has passed (it will because I proposed it, and everyone I do is right /sarcasm) can we change the name 'The Arcade' to something more suitable for this section. All the sub-sections contain important threads and as such the name should be changed to something like 'Important Discussions'.

We can then move the 'FTW Gaming Lounge' to the 'Consoles and Platforms' section and rename it something simple like 'Videogames'.

I understand that this is a lot of change so all constructive feedback is appreciated.

Yeah, I think moving the Site Discussion and FTW Announcements would be a good idea. I also agree to changing the name "The Arcade" to something else. I want to see what everyone else thinks before any action is taken though.

I'm not sure I agree with putting a discussion forum like the Living Room or the FTW Site Discussion in the first slot. This is a videogame site, hence the videogame discussion (in my opinion) should be the first thing you see when you enter the site. I agree that important announcements, like the one I just posted about emails should be known to everyone. That's why there is an "announcements" widget which is underneath the video of the week and calender. If you look at it right now, you'll see that the Suggestion Box and my Emails thread are listed publicly for everyone to see. As for the rules, they were posted in the "Welcome" thread, but I felt that throwing rules in people's faces the moment they came in might be a bit much. I could post a link to the rules thread in the "welcome to FTW" thread, however.

As for the rearrangement of the videogame forums, I think it's worth considering. We could consolidate all the videogame threads into one category, but I'm not going to lie, I think having 3 separate categories on the main page looks better than having only two. It just breaks up nicely. Of course, we'll have to have a unanimous decision from all four admins before any action can be taken. I will, however, make that link to the rules in the "Welcome" thread. I still meant for there to be three categories - The Arcade (soon to be renamed), Consoles and Platforms (soon to be renamed) and General Discussion. I just thought that the FTW gaming lounge be moved to the Consoles category and it to be renamed 'Videogames' (or something equally imaginative) to encompass the change.

and about the changes on the forums I think renaming a few is a good idea but moving them not really except for the gaming lounge

I think people are avoiding the chat topic all together. Everywhere chat is the most efficient chat and it fits well with the overall aesthetic of the site.

I can't really say which chat is better, haven't used either. Unless...is either of them the chat we used to have? I liked that one and am happy to go back to it, I think it was the everywhere chat.
