This website was built off of Brawl so lets talk about BRAWL DARN IT! Playstation All-Stars Brawl to be more specific. Yes most people that have played any smash and say this is a rip off of it BUT from someone that has played smash i can safely say that smash and playstation brawl are not the same game. I want to go through all points of this game and tell the positives and negatives of this game and yes even compare it to smash.
first off when you start PSB you will have an opening video that shows a fight between 2 rivals with a catchy song in the back ground. i bring this up because i find it odd that instead of creating an original song like smash they decided to go a different route. don't get me wrong i really like the opening but i would of liked to seen something that was made by playstation.
much like smash you have a single player AND a multiplayer option (shocking i know) single player is lacking big time compared to smash your only given the option of arcade which has you fight 6 match (1v1 timed, 3 FFA timed, 4 FFA timed, 4 FFA time one player at harder difficulty, 4 FFA stock, 4 FFA stock one player harder) and a 1v1 rival fight then finally a boss fight against polygon man a failed playstation mascot. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
other than arcade the only other option is to test your skills in trials and combo challenges. its an easy way to learn a character and how they work. speaking of characters PSB has a surprisingly short character roster. currently there is 20 characters to choose from. some include the more legendary Kratos from God of War and Nathan Drake from Uncharted to the obscure Sir Daniel and toro. each character also has its own alternate colors and costume to pick from giving a larger customization option than smash. some of the costume options are great but one of them is just down right lazy [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] LAZY!!
along with character customization you can also customize your profile but dont get to excited its not that extensive. you pick a background that you had to unlock first by playing once through the arcade or leveling up your character and the pick a smaller picture as an avatar some of the pictures are very hard to see and make what it is. on the plus side you can pick a minion. yes you read that right a minion a small doll with a big head that pops up and cheers you on after you preformed some sort of special move usually after your killed more that one person. finally you can customize your characters taunt, intro and exit. however you will need to get a high character level to unlock some things.
Finally the most important part of the game multiplayer. much like smash you and up to 3 other people can fight it out in a time or stocked deathmatch. In smash the idea is to build up the damage meter to easily send them flying off the stage. however in PSB you build up your meter to pull off super moves to kill an enemy. Every character has 3 levels of super lvl 1 being the weakest getting you 1 to 2 kills if you're lucky enough to and lvl 3 which can easily get you 3-6+ kills depending on what character you pick. some characters build meter really fast while other build it very slow.
all in all this is a good game that i recommend to anyone that has a PS3. Is this game like Brawl? in some ways yes and in some ways no. Is this game better than brawl?... No. Why? because while its on the right path it is lacking in some areas such as modes for multiplayer and single player. the rooster is short and missing some characters. Like i said i do recommend it for those that are fans of Smash.

Well, if you recommend it I'd be down for picking it up, especially due to my lack of multiplayer titles for PS3 besides Call of Duty.
So when you say you're saving up for a special attack, do all of the battles basically consist of just building up a meter? Do you knock characters off the stage, or is there an HP meter??

see 2nd video it will answer all questions
Spoiler:
but if you're to lazy to do that yes all battles consist of just building up a 'super meter' and using that meter to kill other players. Like I said before the faster you can get to level 3 super the better. there is only 2 stages where you can knock off enemies (the other stages are enclosed) but that does not kill them it just respawns them on the stage they then lose some meter and in a daze for a few seconds (see @3:04 in the video Kratos) finally no there is no health meter. once again see the video

I've been talking with Skye, and we're both considering picking it up. It might be weird to get used to, especially with having to build up points and all, but it would be a cool game for all of us to play online, and I'd love to see some vids of our matches.
Who else has the game besides you? And do you have a favorite character??

I believe that Everlong also has it as far as my favorite character im by far the best with Raiden. Then it drops down fast to 'Evil' Cole, Sly Cooper, and maybe fat princess.

Great review! For whatever reason whenever I tried to look up gameplay videos on youtube I couldn't really find anything showing online game play, so your video was very helpful. If Cory is down for picking this up I will be too, especially with the free DLC.

Still thinking about getting it, though I'm still kind of hesitant...not sure why. The game by itself doesn't look like anything that's "must have," so I admit if I do buy it soon, it'll primarily be to play with you guys.
Also, I was a bit shocked to see it brand new at gamestop the other day for only $39.99! I thought that was really pretty low, but then I read a few articles on gamespot and destructoid talking about how the game was pretty much a flop...THEN I read that Sony pretty much abandoned the studio that did All Stars (Super Bot?)...which is pretty crappy of them, considering they hardly marketed the game.
Anyway, I'll more than likely get it in time. $40 is pretty cheap!

like I said before in our skype chat its not a Smash killer and yes its not a 'must have for PS3 owners' the only way i would say get it to play online with friends. Its true what you saw it is cheap new at only 35-40 depending on where you go and its also true about Sony parting ways with Super Bot a team the was 'made to make party style fighting games for the Playstation' (now they are not apart of Sony now what?) I'm going to make a bold statement that we will never see a sequel and the supposed future DLC will be very few (if any). Its a shame coming from some one that was IN LOVE with Brawl I really enjoy this game and sad to see such negative news about it.
