Boss fights are a HUGE part of what makes a game great for me, especially if the boss fight is difficult and dramatic....they really make the game memorable in a huge way, so I think it would be cool to point out our favorite ones...if you can, share videos of them!
Hardest Boss Fight: Final Fantasy VIII against Sorcoress Ultimecia
This was the final boss of probably the most difficult FF game I've ever played. You'll notice this video is 7 minutes long...but that's only half of the battle! This boss fight literally took me an hour to beat...she had 4 forms, almost unlimited health, and crazy attacks that not only took away HP, but your magic attacks as well...you didn't know which move she would take away, and if she took certain ones, it was almost impossible to win. I barely beat her with Squall after everyone else was dead...i had around 4 HP and beat her with a last ditch attack.
Best Boss Fight: Zelda Ocarina of time against Ganon
Athough he was not terribly hard, this has to be one of the most dramatic, cinematic experiences i've ever had in a video game. THIS is what brought the game together for me, and made it what it was. If you watch this video, PLEASE watch the end!

Hardest: The Guy, Shadow Queen, and Meta-Ridely (inb4LOLTHATSSOEASY). Most fun: Dumb Drum from DKC.

Best boss fight I'm right with Cory on that, Ganon cannot be beat, despite the fact that it was easy to do so.
My other favorite bosses, or at least the ones I still remember cause they were that great, not difficult, some of them, just memorable, since I remember them from over 6 years ago when I beat all of them then never played their game again because I got a GC and just stopped, where:
Andross - Lylat Wars/Starfox 64. This guy was awesome, the scale of the fight would be intense, despite the fact that you went through 6 other incredible levels to get to him, then you had to go down to the center of the planet itself to fight this giant head, then it got even better when you killed the head and revealed the true being inside, just awesome, one of the few bosses that is truly memorable.
Bonetail - Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door. Every Paper Mario Game has had an optional boss, one that was usually harder than the final boss itself. This optional boss is one of the hardest bosses that I can remember, not only did it have DOUBLE the HP of the final boss of the main game, but just to get to it you had to go through the pit of 100 trials, excluding every 10th floor that would give you a resting point, you had to fight 90 floors of enemies, all harder than the regular enemies of the game and each harder than the last, just to endure through to the end of the pit is enough, but then you would have to fight this massive dragon that is seemingly invincible, such a fun fight.
All of the bosses from Okami, if you saw them you'd know what I meant, they're just awesome.
Dammit, so many bosses I loved, can't remember them all though, oh well.

That last comment jody, most hard bosses from RPGs, that's completely true, ones that aren't and are still ultra hard are even more exceptional.

If you think those ones are hard try to beat the final bosses in FF 1 and DW/DQ 2. It may take you hours of try and you can beat them if your lucky also. They each can kill you in a single attack plus they can recover their health fully whenever they want!
A boss fight that I think would be hard also would be ultima weapon in FF VI (at least no one can beat him on the first shot if you dont know how to or didnt get any tips).
Another one would be the guy in mario RPG (the one in the secret door with the 4 crystal and the music from FF)
A fun and long one would be the core of lavos in Chrono Trigger!

Nice to see someone else is giving Final Fantasy some props for a change! But I agree, RPG bosses do tend to be harder...i can think of a ton of really tough ones, like Sephiroth from FFVII or Seymore from FFX in his weird second form....
god, now that i think of them, there are too many to count! But yeah, i agree...for the most part, RPG bosses are harder...the only game I can think of that's close is the RE series, and even those bosses aren't too hard...

Some bosses just take too long! The final boss in FF8 took over an hour to beat, and several fights in other RPGs have taken forever as well....just playing that long is a challenge in itself...
oh, and another killer fight was against "Bad Girl" in No More Heroes...she was a...well...you know what...lol

That made me mad bro, I felt cheated out of another fight with that one! He would have been so cool! Although the chick you fought instead was crazy...for some reason, she reminded me of the girl from Kill Bill...
I also thought Henry was a really hard boss...but a very welcome one!

@Ty-
Yeah, Stallord was one of the hardest bosses in TP...actually, he may have been the toughest, since all of the others were pretty simple in my opinion.
Here's some other great boss fights- Bad Girl from No More Heroes (Mature)
Salazar from RE4(Mature)

Ozma, one of the hidden bosses in FFIX, is probably the hardest boss fight I've ever tried. I power leveled and strategized and still didn't beat it.

One of my favorite boss fights of all time has to be The Toolbox Head (or CarPainter, I'm not sure his name) from Castle Crashers. Carrot Clocks?! Nose Snails!? Epic and hilarious.
One of the hardest has to be Sephiroth from both Kingdom Hearts games (Lance Bass FTW). Sure, I kicked his ass both times, but I'll never forget the very first time I tried to fight him. I had no idea what I was in for.

I just finished Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, final boss was Ashera, Goddess of Order, bloody hell, actually the entire endgame mission was irritating, here's how it went:
The endgame mission was actually 5 missions in one, luckily all the units' HP reset after each though, however that's the only luxury I was given.
1. Not too hard, just had to move through the first floor, had my dream team of units selected and they were all primed for the fight, mowed through the enemies and routing them was very very easy, it also felt good to kick the ass of the ultra smug senator that was backstabbing everyone in the game up until this point.
2. Then it got irritating. The room had been cut off into 2 parts, Ike and the Black Knight were on one side, in a 1 on 1 duel, everyone else was having a grind fest on the other, since it only ended when Ike beat him. So it took a while and I had to use up my healing items twice, but I eventually got through with only 2, I think, units dying.
3. Now I was straight to hell. The strongest of the beast warrior "laguz" tribes, the dragons, were the enemies here, to win I had to beat the king of the dragons, who had a MASSIVE 100 HP, regenerated 40 each turn, could attack at a 10 block range, was surrounded by other dragons, took nearly no damage from the weapons that could hurt him, and apart from one weapon of each character, any other weapon would heal him equal to my attacking unit's luck stat. But I did push through, after losing 3 of the other laguz tribe kings, which really made me want to "forget" to put on my wrist strap as I practiced the baseball game.
4. Now I was at the door to face Ashera, but before I could, I had to defeat the one guy who was the actual mastermind behind the whole story blah-blah-blah backstory. He was the only actual human fighter left, the other 15-20 enemies there were these irritating orb things that could warp anywhere and did either fire, wind or lightning damage. Actually, the most annoying thing about this mission was that unless I had gotten rid of the orbs surrounding the actual boss, any attack aimed at him, he could pass off to one of the adjacent units, plus when his health got low he would warp away, attack everyone, then summon some more orbs to protect him.
5. Now I was really getting irked by how annoying the easy difficulty setting was. But I was finally there, Ashera, a straightforward battle against a super tough enemy, right? Wrong, she also had the orb things, only 3 mind you, but still she had them, but they didn't protect her, she actually had the 8 spaces around her being used up by her protective Aurora, each of them had 90 HP I had to kill and apart from one of my units, any attack that hit the aurora would deal half damage right back at me! Not only that, but she could heal the aurora units in her turn, have the orbs heal the aurora units as well, then attack with some random ultra powerful magic attack that affected everyone and nearly killed them so many times. Eventually though, I managed to get all of the aurora out of the way, only to find that she had 120 HP herself that also regenerated, so that's, *math* 890 HP base that I had to chip at, that kept on coming back at the end of each turn, and the defenses they had meant that I only was able to do maybe 20-35 damage with each character per turn, if they actually managed to hit her in the first place, that is. Anyway, without any other distractions in the way, I attacked strategically, showed off my massive brain power and general awesomeness, until she had enough HP left that I could initiate the cutscene with Ike delivering the final blow.
Adding up the HP of all of the bosses in the endgame mission and how much they regenerated, I ended up having to deal with around about 2000 HP of enemy bitch slapping. Now that's what I call a tough boss/final level.
Although I still found Bonetail about equal difficulty, though it might be because I only had 2 attacks at a time and I couldn't run away and hide behind someone else in that game………

My god Burning Soul, that just sounds insane...but then again, I love an amazing boss fight, and that sounded extremely exciting. Just reading it makes me want the game...You know a good game when you have a good boss...
@True_Destroyer- Was that boss one of the extra ones? if so it's no wonder you had a hard time...the extra/hidden bosses in FF games are legendary for being nearly impossible...I recall the zookeeper guy in FFX who had the insanely powerful creatures...I really couldn't beat any of them. And the hidden bosses in XII were pretty insane as well...

Man, I can't believe I haven't posted here yet (Edit: after the darn computer erased everything I said and I had to retype it, I can't believe I'm reposting it.....AAARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!! That was a LONG post. )
HARDEST BOSS FIGHTS
3rd Atma Weapon (Final Fantasy VI. Also called Ultima Weapon.)
Nowadays I can beat him with ease, but when I first met him, he seemed to be incredibly tough. I've fought much harder since, but I think he deserves to be mentioned here.
btw. The guy here is fighting him on insanely low levels.
~My name is Ultima...I am power both ancient and unrivaled...I do not bleed, for I am but strength give form...Feeble creatures of flesh...Your time is nigh!
(accuratly translated quote.)
2nd: THE OMEGA PIRATE
The Omega Pirate is tough.....let me repeat TOUGH He beat me nearly a dozen times! (I hate that he laughs at me while doing it too ). He was ridiculously stronger than the last two remaining bosses, both of which were pushovers for me. While I can usually beat him first time now, it's still a bit tense from time to time.
Basically you have to break his four armor plates (2 on his shoulders and 2 on his knees) while he's using shockwaves and bomb like Plasma cannons at range(the explosions take nearly a quarter of the room you fight) or when close, just goes for the good old fasioned puching and kicking (he can easily take down multiple energy tanks in seconds if you get careless here).
Oh, and to hit him you have use your limited supply of missles (hope you've been picking up those expansions!) because he has a shield that blocks beams and absorbs them. (and more often than not blocks your missles as well. ). (EDIT: actually, I discovered that you can hit him with beams, even when his shield is up. It's just akward) Did I forget to mention that you have to do this while manouvering around the room which has three pools of Phazon (HIGH damage if you step in, which is VERY, VERY easy to do when you're trying to avoid a shockwave or explosion).
If you manage to get all hit armor plates broken CONGRATULATIONS!.....You now can finally start doing some damage to him! (yay..... ) Of course, the fact that he turns invisible and warps to a random phazon pool to regenerate his armor plates can make things a little annoying. In the meantime, some pirates (each with a different weakness just to make them more irritating.) come down to occupy you while the Omega Pirate is regenerating his armor. You can either waste valuable time chasing them down (remember, the Omega Pirate is regenerating his armor. This phase lasts maybe twenty seconds at best) or waste even more valuable energy by letting them shoot you in the back while you try to take him down.
and finally........
1st: Shadow Link (The Legend of Zelda: Link's Adventure & Ocarina of Time)
By far the toughest boss of all time in Link's Adventure there's really not much to say except that after fighting your way through a palace and a boss (assuming you managed to survive the caves and enemies that come before you can reach the palace) that are more than enough to kill you themselves, you're expected to take on a nearly invincible clone. Good Luck. (Yeah, right.) I STILL haven't beaten him on that game!!!!
In Ocarina he's easier, but annoying as heck. I haven't found a way to hit him without cheating after 3 or so wounds. To beat him, you have to hit him a little over a dozen times I think (not sure, it's been a LONG time since I fought him) and each time he disappears (and comes at you from the back more often than not ). Once you've hit him three or more times (which is really difficult as he attacks when you do) whenever you use a thrust attack and you don't hit ( which is about 100% percent of the time....maybe more like 110%) you get stunned until he attacks you.
I ended up beating him using two glitchs/cheats. First, I attacked with Din's Fire until my magic ran out. He would run, but he would stay just in range thanks to some glitch or another. Once I ran out, I would use a jump attack, he would dodge and jump attack me, and then I would quickly hit him until he FINALLY died.

I have to agree with you, Forsaken. Fighting Ganon in 3-D for the first time.......it was awesome.....especially the way they did it.......even Twilight Princess hasn't come close to matching that, much as I liked the last battle where Ganon uses the Sage's Sword.
2nd: Galcian (Skies of Arcadia)
Galcian is one of the two main villians in the game (arguably the main villain, even though he doesn't quite make it to the end of the game). Even though he turned out to be pretty easy, there was so much building up to this point, and great scenes both before and after it that it's impossible to leave this battle out of my all time favorites.
Like all the characters in Skies, he's kind of cliched, (he's the evil, power-hungry villian) but it was the way they did the story that made him so incredible. It's hard to explain, but think Star Wars, where they took a B rated idea, but the characters, even if cliched, where what made it so great. I'll stop ranting now. Enjoy the vid! (P.S. I didn't remember anything about Aika having lollypop?! Weird. She normally uses boomerangs.)
as for my third.....I'll have to think about that one....of course, any boss from Metroid Prime is usually incredible.....it's one of the few Gamecube games with a challenging AI.....Am I the only person who likes the boostball guardian from MP2?

Oh, and I won the FE Radiant Dawn level that Roy was talking about. I managed to win without losing anyone except Gareth......thanks to his pathetic speed & res. stats he didn't stand a chance against Ashera, but he distracted her from Sanaki, which was what I needed him for.

I should really play that game again on a higher difficulty. I hadn't played a game like it, with that turn-based combat before. I think if I played it again, I'd have better skills at organising my units and strategising.
Also I'd make sure my brother was sitting by for that one mission, as he is a general master of Risk. Also I'd make sure not to be as stupid as I was the last time and let almost all of my Laguz kings get killed off at the third stage.
