Yeah, there was an article on IGN today about how Nintendo was "recession proof", unlike many of the other gaming developers, like the one that was working on Star Wars Battlefront. I even think Microsoft recently terminated a few thousand jobs. It really must be due to the "casual" gaming crowd. I mean, a lot of us don't like these "shovelware" games, but then again, they are saving Nintendo... confused

If you want a rundown on Nintendo's current state of the gaming recession, watch Yahtzee's intro to his LBP review, here's what he says about Nintendo:

"Sonic lives in a trash can in a septic tank and Mario's probably going to move in with him soon, seeing as how his creators are making much more money selling bathroom scales (Wii Fit) and MIDI synthesizers (Wii Music) to undersexed housebound women than actual games."

I really have to agree with him, these cooking and yoga instructors keep coming and coming while the update on Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Star Fox, Kid Icarus (that everyone is so intent on it being real, most likely because he appeared in Brawl) any of the real and good franchises, is "We're working on it, we've been working on it for a while, we think it's going to be great" Well that's nice and all, but could you at least give some of the pathetic spinoff games like you used to, they were at least partially fun for the first hour or so and made me interested enough in stores to pick the box up for about 10 whole seconds. Sigh, really, Nintendo as a real game company is just a joke now...

Wow, I'm surprised to hear you say that Soul...you've always been a Big N Defender. But I do have to agree with you. I've often wondered: Where's Mario Party 9? Where's Mario Tennis Wii? They aren't necessarily the greatest games in the world, but at least you knew Nintendo was doing something....now of course, I'd rather have some huge hits like a true Starfox, DK, Kirby, Kid Icarus, Mario...etc, but when they keep saying "we're working on it", and don't show anything but crap at E3, how can the hardcore fans stay excited about the system? Nintendo may be making money, but when all they make is casual games which require extremely little money on effort on their part, their success will be very short lived...

It all depends on how long the casual trend lasts....like I said in the other thread, I don't think it will last for ever (casual gamers are by definition casual about games, and won't be searching fanatically for the next Brain Age or Wii Fit.) but you can't seriously blame Nintendo for trying to make money.

The biggest thing I'd like to see from Nintendo is an effort to try and make better quality games, besides just throwing out another Mario game, like what they did with Pikmin, which was a surprisingly fun game.
